eeeeYeaaaaaah, I was that guy for a week last month -- but with good reason.
From the auspices of my amazing coach Amanda, I created my very own 30 before 30. A comprehensive list of the 30 things I want to accomplish before I turn 30. Amongst that list, drink 7 gallons of water in 7 days - an ocean feat, but one thats proudly scratched off the list.
This post is twofold. I want you to know that I drank 7 gallons of water in 7 days (!!!), and I want to share a few things I learned while floating along:
1. Water is one of the six basic nutrients and is widely regarded as the most important because the body requires it constantly. As a matter of fact, the important [for our purposes, important is defined as life preserving] chemical reactions - such as the production of energy - take place in water.
2. I had no clue that we lose around 1 pint of water by unconsciously performing everyday tasks such as breathing and sitting! So you can imagine that exercise, under most conditions, can cause rapid dehydration. It's important (there's that word again) to consume water before, during, and after exercise.
3. Don't wait until you're dehydrated to start drinking water, drink water on a schedule. I’ve learned that relying on your sense of thirst can lead you astray when your body chemistry is awry (ie: during physical or mental exercises) and you may not realize you need water. Each sip of water combats fatigue, diminished performance, and the decay of your best efforts. Disciplined water intake is paramount.
Truth be told, there was something unexpectedly addictive about emptying the liquid contents of a gallon into my body and being immersed in its life quenching benefits. As I turned the final container upright, and humbly emptied its remains, I thought to myself, what if I was this thirsty for wisdom...what would that look like?
1. Wisdom is the most important of six basic nutrients because the body constantly craves it. As a matter of fact, the important (for our purposes, important is defined as life preserving) reactions - such as the energy to be prepared, productive, and powerful - take place in wisdom.
2. I had no clue that we lose a pint of wisdom by operating in an unconscious state of being. So you can imagine any effort requiring exercise will cause rapid dehydration -- thus, it's important to consume wisdom before, during, and after exercise.
3. Don't wait until you're dehydrated to start drinking wisdom, drink wisdom on a schedule. I’ve learned that relying on your sense of thirst can lead you astray when you’re working, taking care of the kids, stressed, and/or busy. Each sip of wisdom gives you the mandatory tools to overcome fatigue, diminished performance, and decay of your best efforts. Disciplined wisdom intake is paramount.
Truth be told, there was something unexpectedly addictive about emptying the gallon-of-wise contents into my body and being immersed in the life quenching benefits. As I turned the final container upright, and humbly emptied its remains, I thought to myself, I prefer my wisdom chilled and neat, how about you?
